FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Honest answers about varicos vein treatment
Is the closure procedure painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or mild sedation, meaning you will not feel pain during the treatment. Some patients report a mild, temporary tightness or bruised sensation in the thigh area for a few days post-procedure, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
How quickly can I go back to normal activity?
Within 1 to 2 days. Because modern endovenous closure techniques are minimally invasive, most patients can walk out of the clinic immediately and resume their routine daily tasks or desk work the following day. Strenuous workouts and heavy lifting should usually be avoided for about a week.
Does every varicose vein patient need surgery?
Not every patient requires surgical or endovenous intervention. Mild, asymptomatic cases can frequently be managed conservatively with lifestyle modifications, routine exercise, weight management, and medical compression stockings. Procedures are recommended if you experience persistent pain, swelling, skin changes, or complications.
How is the closure procedure different from vein stripping?
It eliminates surgical stripping entirely. Traditional vein stripping is an invasive surgery that requires incisions, general anesthesia, and physically pulling the faulty vein out of the leg. The modern closure procedure (EVLA/RFA) uses a tiny catheter to apply heat inside the vein, sealing it shut harmlessly right where it is so your body can naturally reabsorb it.
Will the vein come back after treatment?
The treated vein will not return. Once an endovenous closure procedure successfully seals a faulty vein, it is permanently closed and destroyed. However, because vein disease is chronic and genetic, new varicose veins can occasionally form over time in entirely different blood vessels.
What if I need bypass surgery in the future?
It will not affect your care. A common myth is that leg veins must be saved for future heart bypass surgeries. However, varicose veins are diseased, stretched, and structurally damaged, meaning they are completely unfit to be used as healthy grafts for any future arterial bypass surgery anyway.
